As the maritime industry is Korea’s primary industry, the government is highly motivated in policy and financial support. The support can be divided into ‘green technology’ and ‘smart technology’.
Application of the smart technology, including eco-friendly energy-driven ships, e.g. LNG and hydrogen, development of pollution reduction technology, along with big data, IoT, and AI to the maritime industry will enable joint growth of shipbuilding, shipping companies, equipment & materials, and other related industries. To this end, the Korean government keenly supports the development of the Korean maritime industry with distinct plans, e.g. the shipbuilding industry development strategy and the five-year reconstruction plan of marine transport.
The future of the Korean maritime industry is based on industry-academia cooperation.
